After the release of "Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" by the Beatles in 1967, the albuns stopped being only a collection of singles, and became a whole pack connect to a wider concept that included not only music, but the cover, photos and lyrics as well.

O Rock Progressivo se apegou tanto ao formato do Álbum Conceitual que se quase um ítem obrigatório dentro do gênero. Algumas idéias improváveis geraram trabalhos de excelente qualidade. Jethro Tull lançou "Thick as Brick" baseado na redação escolar de um garoto prodígio. Genesis em "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" se baseou numa história surrealista sobre um imigrante Porto-Riquenho nos Estados Unidos.
Prog Rock became closely related to this format until a moment that it became an obligatory item inside the genre. Some strange ideas turned to be outstanding works of art. Jethro Tull released "Thick as Brick" based on a epic poem of a six year prodigious school boy e um garoto . Genesis in "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" based on a surrealistic story about a puerto-rican immigrant in the United States.
Não mais progressivo, mas certamente um álbum conceitual

de David Bowie conta a história de um alienígena superstar
com a missão de destruir a terra.
Not Prog , but a Concept Album, for sure "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spyder of Mars" from David Bowie tells a story of an alien superstar with a mission of destroying th earth.
Fora do Rock, Elvis Costello junto com o Brodsky Quartet gravou "Juliet Letters" baseado em William Shakespeare, e Joni Mitchel em "Both Sides Now" usou as diversas etapas de uma relação amorosa- do fascínio até a superação como tema.
Out of Rock´n Roll, together with the Brodsky Quartet recorded "Juliet Letters" based on William Shakespeare, and Joni Mitchel in "Both Sides Now" used the several phases of relationship- from the enlightment until the overcome as a theme.
Do Brasil trago dois exemplos. Zé Ramalho e Lula Cortes em "Paiberú" que se inspiraram em inscrições rupestres na pedra do Ingá no estado da Paraíba.
O outro exemplo é "Clara Crocodilo" de Arrigo Barnabé, fortemente influenciado pelo atonalismo, Frank Zappa, e pelas histórias em quadrinhos de Luiz Gê. O álbum narra a história de um office boy que se oferece como cobaia para uma experiência genética de uma multinacional e se transforma em um mutante.
From Brazil, Zé Ramalho and Lula Côrtes in "Paiberú" was inspired in rock paintings at the Ingá Rock in the State of Paraíba.
