Originariamente o diretor queria utilizar a música "Atom Heart Mother" do Pink Floyd, mas devido a problemas de negociação optou por Wendy Carlos (ex-Walter Carlos) que produziu arranjos sintetizado para a Nona sinfonia de Beethoven e "Música para o funeral da Rainha Mary " de Henry Purcell. A junção de música classica com eletrônica
foi uma escolha perfeita para realçar o clima de violência e opressão do filme.
Today we are going to talk about soundtracks made essentially by synthesizers. Our starting point is " Clockwork Orange", Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film. Originally the director wanted to use the song "Atom Heart Mother" by Pink Floyd, but due to business issues he chose Wendy Carlos (former Walter Carlos) who produced synthesized arrangements for the Beethoven's ninth symphony and "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary" from Henry Purcell. The combination of classical music with electronics it was a perfect choice to highlight the film's atmosphere of violence and oppression.

Ex-integrante da banda technopop "Ultravox" , compôs a trilha de mais de 100 fimes, entre eles, "A origem" (Christopher Nolan-2010), "O Código Da Vinci" (Ron Howard-2006), "Sherlock Holmes" (Guy Ritchie-2009) e "Interestelar" (Christopher Nolan-2014).
Há alguns anos tive a oportunidade de participar de uma série de Master-Classes on line de Zimmer. Uma das coisas interessantes que ele falou foi como foi a concepção da trilha de Interestelar. O diretor Christopher Nolan não lhe forneceu o roteiro previamente e lhe informou que o filme narrava a história do esforço de um pai para recuperar o amor perdido da filha. Nolan simplesmente omitiu o fato de se tratar de um fime de ficção científica, fato que só foi revelado quando o processo de criação já estava bem adiantado. Dessa forma trilha focou mais no fator humano da história sem lançar mão de clichês do universo da ficção científica.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to participate in a series of Zimmer's online Master Classes. One of the interesting things he talked about was how the Interstellar track was designed. Director Christopher Nolan had not previously provided the script and informed him that the film told the story of a father's effort to recover his daughter's lost love. Nolan simply omitted the fact that it was a science fiction film, a fact that was only revealed when the creation process was well advanced. In this way, the track focused more on the human factor of history without resorting to clichés in the universe of science fiction.
