Apesar de ser considerado o instrumento mais completo da orquestra, em algum momento na segunda metade do século vinte, alguns compositores decidiram ampliar as capacidades sonora do piano e resolveram adicionar entre as cordas parafusos, arames, pedaços de borracha, papel laminado, bolas de ping pong e outros materiais menos convencionais para alterar o som.
John Cage é o compositor que teve a obra mais extensa e conhecida dessa técnica, apesar de não ter sido o pioneiro. No entanto foi ele quem abriu as portas para um reconhecimento sério. Podemos conferir aqui "Bachanalle" na interpretação de Giovanna Mirrione.
Basicamente isse é o que conhecemos do piano preparado, mas outros compositores menos conhecidos fizeram abordagens diferentes desses usos alternativos para o instrumento.
O primeiro que vamos olhar é Henry Cowell que adaptou técnicas da harpa ao piano
Em trabalhos mais recentes, outros compositores incorporaram a eletrônica e conceitos de acústica para alterar o som do piano

No Brasil a Pianorquestra tem realizado um trabalho interessante aplicando diversas técnicas ao repertório popular sob a direção de Cláudio Dauelsberg ( com quem estudei por um breve período no início dos anos 90)

Although it is considered the most complete instrument of the whole orchestra, somewhere in the second half of the 20th century some musicians decided to amplify the sound capabilities of the piano and started to put screws, wires, rubber , ping pong balls and other less common objets between the wires in order to change the sound.
John Cage is certainly the most famous and has the most extensive work into this technique but he is not the pioneer. He was, in fact , the one who had openned the doors for a more serious recognition. Here we can see "Bachanalle" interpreted by Giovanna Mirrione.

Here in Brazil the Pianorquestra is making a very interest work using several techniques into the brazilian popular music repertoire under the musical direction of Cláudio Dauelsberg ( who was my teacher for a short time in the beggining of the 90's)
