Influenciados pelas experiencias psicodélicas dos anos 60 mas sem se misturar com o blues ou com o pop, alguns artistas e grupos alemães criaram a quintessencia da música eletrônica da década de 70.
Basicamente estamos falando de uma tríade; Tangerine Dream, Popol Vuh e Ash Ra Tempel.
Influenced by the psychodelic experiences in the late sixties but without having a broader contact with pop music and the blues, some german artists and groups created a style of music deeply rooted in mysticism and became the quintessence of the electronic music produced in the seventies.
We are basically talking about a triad of bands: Tangerine Dream, Popol Vuh and Ash Ra Tempel
Tangerine Dream é sem dúvida o mais conhecido e mais duradouro, estando em atividade até hoje.
Sua discografia conta com mais de 50 discos, sendo que o supra-sumo está na produção que vai dos anos 1974-1978 .
A formação original da banda contava com Edgar Froese e Klaus Schulze. Este último deixa a banda em 1970 e forma o Ash Ra Tempel.
Tangerine Dream is with no doubt the most popular and the most prolific band, active until now. The discography mounts more than 50 album, being the best what was produced between 1974 and 1978. The original line-up had Edgar Frose and Klaus Schulze. The last left the band to create Ash Ra Tempel in 1970.
Assim como o Tangerine Dream, O Ash Ra Tempel começou baseando seu som em improvisações psicodélica e com o tempo tomou uma direção mais eletrônica. O disco Seven up, de 1972 conta com a participação de Thimothy Leary.
The same way as Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel started working with psychedelic improvisations and afterwards went further into electronics. The Album "Sven-u" from 1972 had Thimothy Leary as a guest artist.
A terceira banda é o Popol Vuh, responsável por diversas trilhas de cinema do diretor Werner Herzog (Aguirre, Cobra Verde, Nosferatu)
The third band is Popol Vuh. They worked in several soundtracks for Werner Herzog´s movies
such as Aguirre, Cobra verde and Nosferatu.
Correndo por fora temos a mais famosa, mais influente banda de música de eletronica de toda a história: Kraftwerk!
Apesar de compartilhar a mesma origem ,o Kraftwerk a partir de seu quarto disco (Autobahn) passou a fazer uma música bem diferenciada de seus conterrâneos.
A influência psicodélica e o misticismo foram substituidos por um futurismo conceitual.
Na época o som era considerado bem estranho e se diferenciava de tudo o que era produzido então. Curiosamente, nos anos oitenta em diante passou a influenciar praticamente tudo o que foi produzido em matéria de música eletrônica.
As an hours-concours we have the most famous and influential electronic band of the history: Kraftwerk!
Although starting almost from the same background, from the forth album Autobahn on, Kraftwerk made a very distinctive music from their peers. The mysticism and psychedelic experiences gave way to a conceptual futurism. If by that time, their music sounded a little misplaced, in the eighties it turned to be the main influence of all that was produced in electronic music.

Quem quiser se aprofundar mais no assunto há um excelente documentário "Kraftwerk and the electronic revolution" (somente em ingles que aborda toda a historia da cena alemã). Para o Kraftwerk em especial a biografia também é interessante. A discografia, em geral é absurdamente extensa. Só a de Klaus Schulze consta mais de 60 lançamentos.
